Guardiola Criticizes Premier League Schedule During Key FA Cup Week

Pep Guardiola has slammed the Premier League for scheduling Manchester City’s crucial league game against Bournemouth just 72 hours after their FA Cup final against Crystal Palace. Guardiola expressed frustration over the lack of flexibility, especially when compared to other clubs receiving more favorable scheduling adjustments.

City, currently sixth in the Premier League and vying for a Champions League spot, will face Bournemouth on Tuesday, May 20. Guardiola highlighted the physical challenge of playing against a motivated Bournemouth side so soon after the FA Cup final. He pointed out that Tottenham Hotspur’s match was moved to give them more preparation time for the Europa League final, questioning why City wasn’t afforded similar consideration.

“We have been fighting against these situations for nine years, every single season and nothing goes,” Guardiola said. “People say (the schedule) is for broadcasters, more fans or followers, and other things,” he said, suggesting that priorities for broadcasting may be influencing scheduling decisions.

The FA Cup final against Crystal Palace is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at Wembley Stadium. Guardiola emphasized the importance of the match, noting that despite the club’s challenges this season, they are determined to secure the trophy. He also mentioned that midfielder Rodri remains sidelined with a knee injury and will only return once medically cleared.

Guardiola’s comments reflect ongoing concerns about fixture congestion and the need for equitable scheduling to ensure player welfare and competitive fairness.
