Lionel Messi will continue at PSG for at least another season as the club prepares to create a squad around him, most likely under a new manager.
Despite winning the French league title on Saturday with four games left in the season, PSG are considering the future of coach Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo, according to Sky Sports.
The club’s owners are still unhappy with the club’s performances in the Champions League, having been knocked out in the last 16 by Real Madrid this season.
PSG have failed again in the Champions League despite having three formidable strikers – Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Messi joined PSG from Barcelona last summer in the hope of competing in the Champions League, although he understood it would be difficult to win the trophy at the Parc des Princes in his first season at the club.
He is still determined to lead PSG to the Champions League, which is why he has decided to stay at the club for at least another season.
Kylian Mbappe’s contract expires this summer and he is in talks with Real Madrid while PSG are open to releasing Neymar, prompting the French club to rebuild their squad this summer.
They also bring in a new coach who can take advantage of Lionel Messi’s talent.
