Former Italy international Alessandro Altobelli says he was pleased with Wembley’s victory over England, as they believe they are the best team in the world despite having one rusty trophy.
The 65-year-old striker, who has made 61 appearances for Italy, was delighted after the Azzurri’s penalty shootout victory over England last night.
“It was a happy victory,” Altobelli told RAI Sport.
“England is a country that believes they are the best, the biggest, the most talented and the most beautiful.
“And yet when you look at their cupboards there is one rusty trophy they won in 1966. Look at our cupboards full of trophies. ”
Italy have won the European Championship for the first time since 1968, while England have again failed to win the European Championship with their only international title being the 1966 World Cup.
