Following a violation of betting rules, Atletico Madrid and England defender Kieran Trippier was banned for 10 weeks and fined 70,000 pounds ($94,052.00), the Football Association said on Wednesday.
Trippier, 30, refuted seven suspected violations of FA Rule E8, alleged to have happened in July 2019, and demanded a private trial.
In February, the Atletico Madrid and England right-back will miss the first leg Champions League showdown with Chelsea.
His 10-week suspension begins immediately and is due to conclude in March’s first week.
That means he could appear on March 17 in the second leg against Frank Lampard’s guys.
With Diego Simeone’s men still top of the LaLiga, the suspension is a huge blow to Atletico Madrid’s title hopes.
Trippier, 30, is going to miss 11 domestic matches but could return for the March 7 Madrid derby.
