ARSENAL hero Paul Merson predicted a three- goal thriller, but who does he reckon will come out on top?
Merson, who played for Arsenal from 1985 to 1997, predicted a comfortable defeat for his former side against Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.
He told Sky Sports: “The juggernaut will roll on here. Even when they play games like the other day against Newcastle they still don’t let in a goal.
“Arsenal’s strengths are scoring goals, but they are coming up against a really, really good defence.
“Look at Manchester United the other day, they are strolling at 3-0 and end up winning 3-1 – it counts in the end.”
Unai Emery ‘s Arsenal went on an impressive 22-game unbeaten run earlier in the season but failed late.
Gunners lost to both Southampton and Spurs in this month and did not beat Chris Hughton ‘s Brighton on Boxing Day.
“This Liverpool team are just getting clean sheet after clean sheet,” Merson added.
“Arsenal’s Achilles’ heel is at the back, and with Liverpool’s firepower they will score goals.”
Liverpool are in good shape this campaign, conceading only seven goals in the Premier League all season.
Their victory over Newcastle, coupled with the 2- 1 defeat of Manchester City in Leicester, gave them six point lead.
“Arsenal struggled at Brighton and were fortunate on many occasions in the unbeaten run – you cannot keep going behind in games and expect to be winning football matches all the time,” Merson continued.
“Arsenal are where I expect them to be.”
