Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney admitted he is honored to match Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal scoring record withe Manchester United, but he wants to break that record as soon as possible.
His goal against Reading was his 248 goals in 543 appearences, reaching the record 215 matches quicker than Sir Bobby Charlton.
“It is a proud moment,” Rooney said after the game.
“We have got two home games coming up this week so hopefully I can get the next one in one of those.”
He added: “This club is a huge part of my life and I’m honoured to be up there alongside Sir Bobby”
United will host Hull City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday, before welcoming Liverpool in the Premier League on 15 Janaury.
